Angled patterns cut the ends off more pavers, so they need more spare.

The list includes a 4 in compacted gravel base and a 1 in bedding sand layer under the pavers โ€” the standard build for a patio or path. Driveways need a thicker base (6โ€“8 in): scale the gravel up, or work it out on the gravel calculator.

Quick answers

How many pavers do I need for a 12 ร— 10 ft patio?

With 12 ร— 12 in pavers, each paver covers exactly 1 sq ft, so a 12 ร— 10 ft patio (120 sq ft) needs 120 pavers, and this calculator's shopping list shows 132 because it adds the 10% waste allowance for cuts and breakages.

How many 4 ร— 8 in pavers do I need for a 16 ร— 16 ft patio?

How much gravel base do I need under a patio?

Bedding sand goes down as a 1 in layer over the gravel base. A 12 ร— 10 ft patio needs 0.37 cubic yards, rounded up to a 0.5 cubic yard order in the shopping list.

How much waste should I add for pavers?
